'Exploring Pocklington's Past – An Introduction to the Archaeology of Pocklington and District' by Dr. Peter Halkon.

Peter Halkon with the bookPocklington District Heritage Festival held in November 2022 saw the launch of a new booklet giving an overview of the area's earliest history by renowned local archaeologist Peter Halkon.

'Exploring Pocklington's Past – An Introduction to the Archaeology of Pocklington and District' is described as an easy-to-read 20-page booklet that briefly outlines the history and archaeological finds from the earliest example of human activity. A spokesman for the festival said: “Pocklington and district has evidence of continuous settlement going back some 6,000 years.

The booklet was on sale throughout the four-day festival in Burnby Hall's community hall.” Mr Halkon, from Nunburnholme, was nominated for the prestigious Archaeologist of the Year 2022’ award run by Current Archaeology magazine – the country’s leading archaeology publication.
